Five and OH!

This weekend, the Stars journeyed to Collegeville, PA to play in the X-Treme Mother's Day tournament. The 10Us rolled through their first 4 games, until they met a very tough Banshees team in the finals. The championship came down to the last strike in the last inning. With the Stars clinging to a 2-1 lead, two out, and the bases loaded, our defense held strong, coaxing a third strike from the batter. The dropped strike led to a mad scramble for the ball, with our catcher leaping to tag home just ahead of the tying run! Congrats, Stars, on another championship!!!

Stars Have a Beautiful Nightmare

In 3 strong pool play games, the 10U Stars scored 33 runs and gave up only 1! In an interesting coincidence, Team Long Island also scored 33 runs and gave up only 1. So for the first time, our seeding was decided by coin flip. Losing the flip sent the 10Us into Sunday as the #2 seed. The round-of-16 game against a young Lady A's team went well, and the Stars then faced the SJ Gators in the quarterfinals. After staking themselves to a 9-3 lead, the girls decided Coach Rich was *way* to calm and relaxed, and proceeded to hang on for a 9-7 win. The Stars then took the same route to victory in the semifinals against the NJ Pride: After going up 8-1, the girls noticed that the coach's blood pressure had gone back down under 160/120, and tightened the score up to 8-6 before final victory. This brought us into the championship game against the Orange Crush, who upset Team Long Island in the other semi. A rough first half-inning sent the girls into the dugout in the bottom of the first already down 2-0, but once again the bats came alive, and we went out for the second inning up 3-2. After seeing a 4-2 lead shrink to 4-3, the Stars gave themselves breathing room, and held on for a 6-3 victory.

Cherry Blossom Champions

The Stars hosted 11 other teams this weekend in our annual Cherry Blossom tournament. Mother Nature made a strategic error, as the annual dumping of rain occurred a bit too early this April to stop our completing a full tournament! Better luck next time, Mom... Oh, and aside from a successful hosting, the 10Us also won the Gold bracket! Congrats girls. And congratulations also to the Loudoun Storm for winning the Silver bracket. We hope to see you all next year.

10Us Win The USSSA Kickoff Klassic

Traveling to the frozen tundra of Elkridge, Maryland, the littlest Stars overcame the elements, and some worthy competition to go 3-0 in Saturday pool play. Using timely pitching, and powerful hitting, they continued their win streak through their 3 Sunday games and captured the Kickoff Klassic crown!

Halloween Tournament Champions!!!

The 10Us were back in business in Sterling this weekend, to compete in the annual Halloween tournament. We earned the number 1 seed in our pool by winning all 3 pool games without giving up a run. We then parlayed that strong Sunday performance into 3 convincing Sunday victories to claim the Championship. Congratulations girls on a FANTASTIC fall season!

Hampton Roads Challenge Runners-Up!

The youngest Stars went to Williamsburg to test themselves against some of the best teams in Virginia. Saturday started with a hard fought back-and-forth struggle against Hanover Sports. Trailing 9-8 in the bottom of the last inning, our girls rallied to push over the tying run. They followed this with mercy rule victories over the Galaxy and Orion Hunter. Sunday saw convincing victories over the Hanover Hornets and the Virginia Speed, which landed the Stars in the Championship game against the Galaxy. Following Murphy's Law, everything that could go wrong did go wrong in the final battle, and the Stars got shellacked; leaving Williamsburg - after 11 hours on the field - with a second place trophy. Well done in a very tough tournament!

Congratulations, girls, on an excellent beginning to the 2012-2013 season: Your first championship! And undefeated, to boot. Let's continue the solid play in Charlottesville.
